Steffen Peters 和座騎 Ravel ，是在德國阿痕( Aachen )舉辦的 CDIO有史以來第一位贏得馬場馬術大獎賽冠軍的美國騎手。Ravel 這匹11歲的荷蘭騸馬，是雅虎楊致遠的日本老婆所有，此次得到77.83%，把許多高手遠遠拋在後。
 Steffen Peters and Ravel have claimed their part of Aachen history by being the first US Rider to win the Grand Prix Dressage CDIO at Aachen. Peters and Akiko Yamazaki’s 11-year-old Dutch gelding Ravel put in a history making ride, scoring 77.830% in the Grand Prix against many of the best horses and riders in the world. The five judges unanimously placed the pair first, and their average was more than 5 points clear of second place finisher, Hans Peter Minderhoud and Exquis Nadine. Among those left in their wake were 2008 Olympic Gold medalists Anky van Grunsven and IPS Salinero, who finished fifth on a score of 71.362%.

While the USA currently does not have a team coach, German born and raised Peters got a tune up from his former trainer in Germany. “When I started in Germany I trained with Johann Hinnemann for six years. In the meantime, Klaus (Balkenhol) was our coach and I certainly cooperated and worked with him in a wonderful way, and of course the results speak for themselves. But actually my Mom lives very close to Jo Hinnemann’s barn and the food and laundry services are great and made it obviously very easy! Jo is a wonderful coach and he knows, especially that we are only there for ten days he is not going to go in there and change the world. Technically he is a great coach, and made a few minor adjustments from the ground. Today was a good cooperation between my wife Shannon who is my coach at home and Jo on the side. So it as a very good set up, and today the results speak for themselves.”

The pair's quest for a sweep of CDIO Aachen will resume on Saturday, July 4, America's Independence Day, in the Grand Prix Special and Sunday in the Freestyle
